WebWallpaper is a Wallpaper changer which supports the display of changing Webcam-Pictures. It periodically downloads the newest/latest image from any Webcam or any specified Url on the Internet, stores it to a file on your hard disk and sets it as current wallpaper (desktop background). Webcam urls and hard disk file paths are stored in a list.
In some time this Website will be changed to
http://webwallpaper.sf.net, and the SF entry page to
https://sourceforge.net/projects/webwallpaper, resp.
0.59 Beta (ie. not fully functional or fully stable)
Supported Systems / Desktop Environments
Windows 2000/XP/Vista
KDE 3.x
Gnome
+.. possibly others if you have a
command to set the wallpaper
and Java runningwith Java 6 installed (JRE 1.6) (this is a requirement)
Usage
Make sure you have a constant-on and unlimited-download-volume
Internet-Connection.
Unzip your downloaded file.
You may now double click one of this two filesWebWallpaperBeta.jar
WebWallpaperBeta.exeOnce started an icon: is installed in the System Tray (normally bottom right next to the clock).
Double clicking brings up the main window, right clicking shows a menu.Since every older image is overwritten and lost once a new image is downloaded: To save a specific image use "Save Current Wallpaper" system tray menu item.
To change the image display modes (stretch, normal etc.): Use your System Configuration (Windows: Control Panel or right click on desktop).
Rescan Buttons: They Make sense espescially when you have changed the wallpaper with an external program (while running WebWallpaper).
Custom Command: %f gets replaced with the (harddisk) path of the current wallpaper file. Quotes will be added if nescessary.
Before using this program you must make sure you have a constant-on unlimited download volume Internet-Connection and not only limited download volume Internet access or a Dial-Up-Connection as this will fastely increase your telco and provider fees!
Do not set the re-download-period to a too low value since continuous write-actions could harm your hard disk! I recommend not to set the value below 5 minutes.
The file Temp.[jpg|png|..] gets automatically, periodically overwritten.
The executable is compiled with janel.sourceforge.net.

In some situations msvcr71.dll may be needed for the exe, this file comes from janel.sf.net.
Questions, Help and Bug Reports
Workaround to add program to the startmenu (Windows): Create a shortcut to
WebWallpaperBeta.exe an add the shortcut to the startmenu. (Adding directely the
WebWallpaperBeta.exe file will not work since it won't know the correct working
